All Chay (4.8★, $$) is the argument-settler: the highest-rated Vietnamese restaurant in the city, entirely vegan, family-run into its second generation, sitting quietly at 1264 W 500 N. Koyote (551 W 400 N) is the neighborhood's newest anchor and its best origin story: when Axios covered the ramen bar's 2024 opening, the framing was that the west side had been asking for exactly this kind of neighborhood restaurant. City Weekly's verdict on the cooking was "stellar," and the American Shoyu, a shoyu ramen finished with smoked brisket, is the bowl that explains the fuss. It also runs one of the city's more serious gluten-free ramen programs, which is rarer than it should be; the citywide ramen rankings hold the rest of the field.

The new wave on North Temple and Genesee
Un Cafecito (838 W North Temple) is the morning move: a Latina-owned coffee shop from Cynthia Lemus, drawing on her Mexican and Peruvian roots for horchata lattes and café de olla. The Salt Lake Tribune framed the shop as changing what people think about North Temple, and the corridor's reputation is shifting one cortado at a time.
Forty Three Bakery (733 W Genesee Ave) is Glendale's pastry case and possibly its best storyteller. Pastry chef Andrew Corrao named the place for the city's roughly 4,300-foot elevation, laminates croissants inspired by Utah neighborhoods (the Tribune once asked, reasonably, what Rose Park tastes like), and added dinner service last year. Closed Tuesdays, and worth planning around.
Los Tapatios Taco Grill (120 N 900 W, next to Rancho Market) is the one Mexican entry here our Mexican guide predates: two brothers from Jalisco built a fast-casual birria specialist in 2020, and the crispy quesabirria with consommé, the birria ramen, and reported weekend runs measured in thousands of tacos have since carried it to four more locations. The Fairpark original is the point.
Polynesian, Somali, Chinese: the global bench
The west side's depth is that the hits keep coming after the headliners. Tasty Garden (4.9★, 1625 W 700 N) is the quiet giant: Rose Park's Chinese-American standby is the top-rated of the ten Chinese restaurants we count citywide, as of June 2026, with the cashew chicken and pepper beef earning the repeat orders. Pacific Seas (1151 S Redwood Rd) is a family-owned Polynesian restaurant on Glendale's western edge, cooking Samoan and Tongan plates you'll struggle to find anywhere else in the city: lamb lu'au wrapped in taro leaves, chicken curry with sweet potato, crispy turkey tails for the committed. Closed Sundays. And Midnimo (55 N Redwood Rd) keeps Somali home cooking on the same corridor.
